The premise to ‘In the Mouth of Madness’ was beautifully presented – Sam Neil/Peter Gabriel’s character is a fraud investigator, a fanatic in his belief that reality is something definitive and separate from our perceptions of it (he’s the Anti-Pragmatist). The film asks what happens when you present absurdity as reality to someone unwilling to believe in the absurd, but it also shows the futility in being right in the face of popular opinion – it doesn’t matter that you’re right, when faith outnumbers facts you’re going to lose.
